Lake Mburo National Park is located in western Uganda, near the Mbarara-Kampala highway, making it the most accessible park from Kampala (about 3.5–4 hours’ drive). It lies within Kiruhura District and is part of the Ankole cattle-ranching region.
Unlike other Ugandan parks, Lake Mburo has a unique mix of woodland, wetlands, and acacia-dotted savannah, supporting a variety of wildlife.
Lake Mburo Shoreline – Great for hippos, crocodiles, and water birds.
Boat Safari on Lake Mburo – See hippos, crocodiles, and birds like African fish eagles up close.
Horseback Safaris – Ride among zebras and impalas (offered by Mihingo Lodge).
Night Game Drives – Spot nocturnal animals like bushbabies, leopards, and hyenas.
Guided Nature Walks – Walk with armed rangers to see wildlife on foot.
Cycling Safari – Explore the park on a bike (unique to Lake Mburo).
Cultural Visits – Meet the Ankole people and see their famous long-horned cattle.
Dry Season (June–August & December–February) – Best for wildlife viewing as animals gather near water.
Wet Season (March–May & September–November) – Lush scenery, great for birdwatching, but some tracks may be muddy.
Lake Mburo is perfect for a short safari from Kampala, offering a mix of wildlife, birding, and unique activities like horseback riding and cycling. Its intimate size makes it easy to explore in just 1–2 days, ideal for families and travelers en route to other parks.
